Waterbuck, Uganda
I laid in a field at Kidepo National Park in Uganda for a good while, waiting for a shot of this majestic waterbuck. Waterbucks are equipped with a natural defense, a very bitter oil in their fur. So bitter, that even lions leave them alone! This photo is part of a Safari Card Set. This card set was originally used as part of a fundraiser for a Ugandan family of six. In three days, funds were raised for a water catchment system, a gas stove, and electricity for their home! Rothschild's Giraffe, Uganda
The Rothschild 's Giraffe population is quite low and now on the list of endangered species. This particular giraffe was pregnant. As is typical, she and her partner were away from the herd for the 14-16 month gestation period. They will stay away until the young giraffe is about one month old.
